Women's Volleyball Falls at Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference Opener, 3-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team was defeated Saturday afternoon, 3-1, in its Northeast Conference opener at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT. The home team won the first game, 25-16, before the Knights squeaked out game two, 28-26.  However, Sacred Heart responded by taking the final two games, 25-17 and 25-19, to earn the win.  With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 11-4 (1-0 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 5-11 (0-1 NEC) overall.

 

Sophomore Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) recorded her seventh double-double of the season as she led the Knights with 11 kills and added 10 digs on the defensive side.  She also led the squad with a season-high six block-assists.  Junior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) dished out 2 assists, and junior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led the squad with 15 digs.  Freshman Taylor Roland-Buohl (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) added a career-high 13 digs in her first extended action of the season.

Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 26, as they travel to New Britain, CT to take on Central Connecticut State in an NEC-tilt.  The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
