Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Rider, 2-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team (0-5) was defeated Friday night by intra-state rival Rider, 2-0, in Lawrenceville, NJ.  The Broncs scored two second-half goals to earn the victory

In the first half of action, both teams failed to find the back of the net.  The Broncs had more opportunities as they outshot the Knights, 10-2 over the first 45 minutes.

Six minutes into the second half, Rider's Meghan Moor found Abi Cottam for a  header to put the home team up, 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, Cottam found Jody Sokol off a rebound to extend the Bronc's lead to 2-0, which would be enough for the victory.

Junior Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) made seven saves in goal for the Knights despite facing 24 shots by Rider.  The Knights managed a total of seven shots against Broncs' goalie Alex Post, who made three saves.

Freshman Noelle Harner (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) and senior Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) each took two shots, including one on goal.

"It's disappointing to come into a game like this and let it slip away," said Head Coach Renee Montana.  "We came out strong but still couldn't find the last piece to our attack.”

“Giving up two quick goals at the start of the second half was inexcusable.  However, we created dangerous opportunities as a response.  There is plenty of season left to play.  We will keep working every day.”

The Knights are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 12, as they play host to Hartford at University Field in Teaneck.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
