The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team lost a road NEC match Friday afternoon to NEC and Garden State rival Monmouth, 4-1, in West Long Branch, NJ.  The Knights took an early 1-0 lead before the Hawks scored two goals in each half to cruise to the victory.  With the win, the Hawks improve to 8-5-1 (3-2-1 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-13-0 (0-5-0 NEC) overall.

Almost five minutes into the game, junior Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial) scored a much-needed goal for the Knights off an assist from senior Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Hawks netted the game up at one as Mary Wilks scored on an unassisted goal.

In the 24th minute of play, Monmouth went up, 2-1 as Claudia Vazquez found Dana Costello, who scored from six yards out.

Going into halftime with a 2-1 lead, the Hawks outshot the Knights, 8-2.

Over the first 32 minutes of the second half, both teams failed to score until Monmouth scored two goals in the 82nd and 84th minutes to go up 4-1 and put the game away.  Michelle Morrison scored the first one, while Wilks scored her second of the game for the second goal.

For the game, Monmouth outshot the Knights, 16-3.  However, all three shots Fairleigh Dickinson took were on goal.

Junior Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) made five saves in goal for the Knights.  Lia Fierro made two saves for the Hawks.

The Knights return to action on Sunday, October 17, as they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Mount St. Mary's in an NEC tilt.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
