The Northeast Conference released the results of the preseason coaches poll for men's and women's indoor track and field on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Fairleigh Dickinson is slotted to finish eighth and the men's side was picked to finish the season ninth.
At the 2009 NEC Indoor Championships, held at Prince George's S&L Complex in Landover, MD on Feb. 20-21, the women's team finished eighth with 31 points. The men's team finished ninth 38 points.
Monmouth was predicted to finish first on the men's side (with eight votes) and the women's side (nine first place votes).
At last year's event, two graduating seniors earned first-place marks. Reyon John (Buccoo, Trinidad & Tobago/Singnal Hill) won the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 22.10 and Thomas Mackey (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) bested the 60m hurdles field with a lifetime-best clip of 8.12.
On the women's side, junior Megan Patterson finished third in the 800m (2:20.91).
The 4x400m relay squad went for fourth, registering a 3:58.46. Sophomore Altagracia Vasquez collected fifth in the 60m in her rookie campaign, notching a 7.77. Classmate Evana Edwards recorded a lifetime-best time of 8.97 in the 60m hurdles, en route to a fourth-place finish.
The Knights are back in action on January 8 when they compete in the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational.
