EUGENE, Ore. - FDU sophomore high jumper
Ethan Ruffin earned a spot on the All American First Team by finishing inside the top eight in the Men's High Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene Friday afternoon.
Ruffin started the event by clearing the opening bar of 2.11 meters on his first attempt, moving himself inside the top 20 of the event on the first height. Ruffin then continued the momentum after the long wait and cleared the next bar of 2.16 meters, after missing his first attempt, he tied his personal record with the leap, moving himself inside the top 15 after the first two bars.
Ruffin then needed to clear the 2.19 meter bar to claim a spot inside the top eight competitors to earn a All American honor, which on his last attempt, he cleared the bar for a new personal record when it mattered most. Ruffin finished the event in seventh place, with Georgia's Kimani Jack taking the title after clearing the 2.28 meter bar to win the National Championship.
Ruffin put a stamp on a phenomenal season, being the second All American in FDU Track and Field history, as well as the second under Elia G. Stratis Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field
Wesley Stephens.
Salif Mane, who was the other Knight to be named an All American after winning the national title in the Triple Jump in 2024.
