The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer opened the 2008 campaign with a 3-0 loss versus home-standing University of Hartford, Sunday, Aug. 24 in West Hartford, CT. A pair of first-half goals sunk FDU at Alumni Stadium, as the Hawks improved to 1-0-1.
Freshman forward Breeanna Robinson led Hartford with a pair of goals. Senior midfielder Kacey Busque added two assists.
In the 23rd minute, junior defender Becky Flowers registered the game-winner and first goal of the season.
Head Coach Renee Montana's team out-shot the Hawks, 6-4, over the contest's final 45 minutes. Junior Megan MacKellar (/Brookwood) made five saves in net.
“This is a tough one, but I saw a lot of good things today ? unfortunately our three mistakes resulted in goals,” Montana said. “We need to find a way to limit those errors in our defensive third. We'll watch the game film, correct a few things, and put this one behind us, because there's a lot of soccer to be played.”
Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Saint Peter's College at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26.
