Women's Soccers Falls, 4-0, Versus CCSU

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team lost, 4-0, Friday, Nov. 2 at University Field in Teaneck, NJ.  The Blue Devils (9-7-1 overall, 6-2 Northeast Conference) scored just over two minutes after the opening tap and held off an array of FDU runs en route to sending the Knights to 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the NEC.

Freshman midfielder Clio Tregear (West Sussex, England/Oaklands College) scored the game-winner 126 seconds into the game.  Sophomore forward Brittany Emin (North Scituate, RI/LaSalle Academy) gained control of a loose ball following a throw-in and fed Tregear, who finished lower left.

Fairleigh Dickinson spent the majority of the first 15 minutes after halftime in the CCSU zone, connecting numerous runs.  However, the Knights were unable to capitalize despite controlling the flow.

“The score was not indicative of the game ? we were knocking on the door, but couldn't get one in,” Head Coach Renee Montana said.  “Three bad decisions were critical, resulting in three breakaways.  It's important that we put this behind us and turn our focus to Sunday versus Quinnipiac University.”

In the 62nd minute, Central Connecticut's transition attack resulted in sophomore forward Rachel Caneen's (Stafford Springs, CT/Stafford) eighth goal of the year, following a through ball courtesy of freshman forward Beth Lloyd (Reading, England/Oaklands College).

CCSU produced another breakaway opportunity in the 70th minute, with Lloyd converting an assist by Caneen.  Sophomore midfielder Leah Blayney (Katoomba, New South Wales/Auburn) got into the act 32 seconds later, driving home Caneen's saved shot.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Derrico (/Canon McMillan) (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillian) recorded seven saves in the loss.  Blue Devils sophomore goalie Caity Casey (Guildford, CT/Branford) logged 81 minutes, highlighted by a sprawling save on a one-timer by FDU senior forward Tonya Hipsman (/Chester) (Chester, NY/Chester).

Fairleigh Dickinson hosts the Bobcats at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4.  The squad's final regular-season contest marks Senior Day.
