The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team opened Northeast Conference action with a 3-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart University, Saturday, Oct. 13. Junior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) recorded two match-highs ? 18 kills and 21 digs ? to help the Knights improve to 9-10 overall and 1-0 in the NEC.
The Knights took game one, 30-20. Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad trailed by seven in the second game then rode a 19-3 run, en route to a 30-21 win. FDU sealed the match with a 30-23 victory over the Pioneers (5-13 overall, 0-1 NEC) in game three.
Boothby's .424 attack percentage paced the Knights, while junior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Seabrook, MD/Elizabeth Seton) hit .407, tallying 12 kills.
Senior middle blocker Rebecca Tenney (/Tabb) (Yorktown, VA/Tabb), junior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington), sophomore outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Latham, MD/Elizabeth Seton) and freshman outside hitter Erin Roudebush (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) each collected five kills.
Kowalski added a match-high 21 assists, while senior setter Ruth Levy (/Cary) (Cary, NC/Cary) contributed a double-double of 18 assists and 12 digs. Junior libero Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville) (Clifton, VA/Centreville) finished with 12 digs.
Sacred Heart freshman outside hitter Mydori Saipale (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) led the Pioneers with 11 kills. SHU freshman setter Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) registered a team-high 20 assists, with junior defensive specialist Sarah Joy (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) posting a team-best 12 digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson concludes its season-long three-game home stand versus Lehigh University at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17.
