Women's Soccer Beaten at Mount St. Mary's, 4-2

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team lost to Mount St. Mary's, 4-2, Sunday, Oct. 1 in Emmitsburg, MD. The two squads both registered 18 shots, as the Knights (1-8-1) dropped to 0-2 in Northeast Conference action and the Mount (3-7-0) improved to 1-1.

 

FDU fell behind, 3-0, in the game's initial 33 minutes, before freshman midfielder Christine Niven (/Middleboro) (Middleboro, MA) broke through with her first collegiate goal from eight yards out in the 36th minute. Sophomore forward Zaida Castillo (/Bishop George AHR) (Plainfield, NJ) assisted on the scoring effort.

 

Freshman forward Liza Offreda (/Midland Park) (East Rutherford, NJ) also netted her first collegiate tally, capitalizing on an unassisted breakaway with five seconds remaining in the second stanza.

 

“Today as an unlucky day,” Assistant Coach Marguerite Ferrell said. “We played well, but couldn't finish. It's all about finishing our opportunities in the future.”

 

Freshman midfielder Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley) (Arvada, CO) fired a team-high six shots, while sophomore midfielder Natalie Bellini (/St. Thoma Aquinas) (Tamarac, FL) and Niven notched three a piece.

 

Senior goalkeeper Kyla Clark (/Notre Dame/Univ. of Texas - El Paso) (Ottawa, Ontario) recorded 11 saves in 90 minutes between the pipes.

 

The Knights host Long Island University at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Oct 6.
