Freshman Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL) used his seventh goal of the season to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team past visiting Central Connecticut State in a critical Northeast Conference game on Friday afternoon. The Knights improve to 11-5-1 overall with a 4-4-0 mark in NEC action, while the Blue Devils fall to 7-5-3 with a 4-3-1 record in league play.
Senior Mirza Rusevic (Clifton, NJ) started the play that would lead to the game-winner in the first half, feeding the ball to sophomore Pino Tubito (East Hanover, NJ).
Tubito slipped a short pass into Bedoya in front of the goal and Bedoya punched it into the bottom right corner to give the Knights the 1-0 advantage.
Junior Elvir Prasovic (Astoria, NY) made three saves between the posts for the Knights, while freshman Christopher Rybacki (Putnam, CT) grabbed six saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
"It was a hard-fought win and we needed to win badly," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "Now we have to regroup and do the same on Sunday."
The game was physical throughout, with six cards issued and 42 fouls whistled. The Knights out-shot the Blue Devils, 13-5 and held a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights close out their regular season on Sunday, November 6, 2005 when they host Quinnipiac at 1:00 p.m.
