Knights Bury Five Goals and Cruise to Victory in NEC Opener at Chicago State

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - FDU Men's Soccer (7-2-1, 1-0-0 NEC) used a scoring barrage, getting four goals from four different goal scorers and cashing in an own goal to down Chicago State (0-9,0-1 NEC) in the Windy City Sunday afternoon. The Knights move to 1-0 in the conference slate with a big win on the road to open NEC play.

The Knights wasted no time Sunday afternoon, as FDU got on the board in the first wo minutes of the match, where Andrew Araya banged home a nice passing play, getting the feed from Genti Dauti and putting it past the Cougar keeper to make it 1-0 FDU early.

About a half hour of game time later, Jeremie Pelade would introduce himself to the NEC, burying a goal in the top part of the net, sneaking his shot underneath the crossbar in the top right corner of the net. The cross that Pelade converted was sent in by Joshua Bartels, as he and Thomas Giraudo both grabbed assists on the second goal of the match for FDU.

Just five minutes after Pelade's tally, FDU freshman Preston Duval got his first career goal as he tucked his shot underneath the crossbar much like Pelade, scoring in the top right corner of the net, giving FDU a 3-0 advantage, which they would take into the halftime break.

Out of the half, the Knights came out well rested and needed just 15 minutes to get to the scoreboard again. This time the captain Ryan Kopay put his foot on the ball from outside the box and buried it once again in the top section of the net.

The Knights were then the beneficiary's of an own goal late in the match, which made the score 5-0 FDU. The Knights would ride that score until the game ended, giving FDU their first NEC win of the season, topping the Cougars, who lost their first NEC game of the season.

FDU dominated the match statistically, as the Knights outshot Chicago State 54-4. FDU got 29 of those 54 shots on net, creating a barrage that the Cougars could not handle.
