COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The FDU Knights (0-2, 0-0) were defeated by Maryland (2-0, 0-0) on Thursday night by a score of 2-1. This was the second of three consecutive matches on the road to begin FDU's season.
FDU's lone goal was delivered by freshman Amina Brown in the 73'. It marks Brown's first collegiate goal in just the second match of her career.
The Terrapins first goal came 83 seconds into the match courtesy of Jolie Farmer. In the 67', Farmer stuck again and extended the home team's lead to 2-0.
After surrendering the first goal, FDU was able to hold Maryland off the board the remainder of the half. Goalkeeper Rosemarie LeBlanc was called upon to make three saves. On the attacking end, FDU generated two shots and two corners with moments of consistent possession.
The second half offered more quality chances for Maryland. Their offensive pressure was building before Farmer scored her second goal of the night. This sequence involved two shots on goal before Farmer tapped in a ricochet off the crossbar.
While the Terrapins beat Rosemarie Leblanc twice, the junior registered a career night in saves. LeBlanc made 13 saves, which is the most she has had in an FDU uniform.
Six Knights logged 89 or more minutes, while Eric Teepe utilized six substitutes. Brown led the bench with 54 minutes played and made the most of it with her second half goal.
The Knights are back in action this Sunday at Penn. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Philadelphia and will air on ESPN+.
