OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - FDU two way player
Jeremy Cheeseman and shortstop
Johnathan Gomez have both been selected to early season watch lists, comprised by the College Baseball Foundation.
Cheeseman was named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player Award Watch List in a release posted this afternoon. Cheeseman will look to be a leader for FDU both on the mound, at the plate, as well as in the field, as he was last season for the burgundy and blue.
Cheeseman is coming off a season in which he hit .239, while hitting four home runs and driving in 31 runners at the plate. On the mound, Cheeseman was also effective, making nine starts on ten appearances, and striking out 25 batters in the 2025 campaign.
Johnathan Gomez was the other Knight to be named to a position based watch list, as Gomez was selected to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, which is the award that's given to the nation's best shortstop.
Gomez has been among the best of the best in the Northeast region as well as the country, as in the 2025 season, Gomez led the team in most major statistical categories inlcuding runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, and home runs. Heading into play Wednesday, Gomez is the only Knight to hit a homer in the new season, and will look to make a charge as not only the NEC's best short stop, but vying to one of the best in the country.
Gomez and Cheeseman will both look to be in the starting lineup for the Knights in their midweek clash with Iona, as well as their NEC opening series this weekend with the Wagner Seahawks.
