BETHLEHEM, PA. - FDU Baseball (14-8, 8-1 NEC) dropped a Wednesday contest at the hands of the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (6-15, 2-4 Patriot) at J. David Walker Field by a final score of 9-2.
The Knights offense put together good at bats, but never got the big hit in the Wednesday contest. The Knights got hits from
Johnathan Gomez,
Hunter Ray,
Diego Urreta,
Jimmy Mantuano,
Tyler Worth and
Travis Stroh.
Lehigh jumped on Knights starter
Neylin Navarro, as after a clean first inning, Lehigh plated three runs with two extra base hits in the second inning, making the score 3-0. The Mountain Hawks would continue to apply pressure and were able to score five runs in the fourth inning with a bases loaded rally.
FDU struggled to get the bats going and move runners over, and Lehigh added an additional run in the seventh, as the score was 9-0 Lehigh at the end of seven innings. The Knights were able to break the shutout in the ninth inning, with a two run single from
Hunter Ray, but the Knights could not spark the massive rally they needed, falling to the Mountain Hawks by a final score of 9-2.
The loss marks the first for FDU in nine games, as the team was one win shy from tieing the program long win streak record. The Knights last loss came on March 7th in their only NEC loss at Wagner.
FDU will continue the road trip to take on the Delaware State Hornets at Bob Reed Field in Dover, Delaware for a three game NEC set. The two teams will open the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then conclude the set with a Sunday doubleheader. All three ballgames will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
