QUEENS, N.Y. - FDU Baseball (14-7, 8-1 NEC) used a five run eighth inning to top the St. John's Red Storm (9-14) by a final count of 12-5 at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The win marked the ninth in a row for the Knights, a streak that started back on March 13th.
FDU jumped out to an early lead in the first frame curtesy of a
Diego Urreta RBI single. In the second inning, the Knights added another run as
Johnathan Gomez doubled to center field, scoring
Travis Stroh in the process.
After a solo home run from St. John's in the bottom of the second inning, the Knights got the run back in the top of the third when
Jeremy Delamota singled home Urreta to push the Knights lead back to two runs. FDU added another run in the fourth inning once
Travis Stroh hit a solo homer to make the lead 4-1 Knights. St. John's cut the lead with a run in both the fourth and fifth inning to make the score 4-3 FDU after the fifth inning.
The game would stay that way until the top of the eighth inning, where the Knights would plate five total runs in the frame, starting with a
Johnathan Gomez RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded. That moved the line to
Hunter Ray who doubled against a shift, scoring two more runs for FDU. Later in the inning,
Diego Urreta singled home two more runs, as Ray and Gomez both came around to score.
The Red Storm added another run in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 9-4 heading into the final inning. FDU added another three runs in the top of the ninth, starting with
Jeremy Delamota's second home run of the season, then a pair of sacrifice flies, one from
Travis Stroh and the other from
Garryn Plummer. Knights closer
Nick Noble was able to slam the door and end the game in a non-save situation as FDU took their ninth straight ballgame.
FDU will put their nine game winning streak on the line once again, as the Knights will make the trip to Pennsylvania to take on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. First pitch from J. David Walker Field is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
