OVERLAND PARK, KAN. - FDU right handed pitcher and first baseman
Jeremy Cheeseman was named as the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation, per a release Tuesday afternoon.
Cheeseman has been one of the marquee contributors in FDU's eight game win streak, and the most recent homestand where the Knights won nine of the 10 ballgames they played at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in the last 14 days.
Over the last week of play, the Knights went 5-0 and Cheeseman had his hands all over the winning streak. Cheeseman hit .538 with seven hits, four home runs, 8 RBI and 8 runs scored while tacking on a pair of steals in the last week of action at the plate. Cheeseman is now tied for the team lead in home runs with eight, while also driving in 20 runners this season, with a 1.317 OPS through the first 20 games of the season. Cheeseman has four mulit-homer games this season, after recording two in the most recent week of play alone.
On the mound, Cheeseman picked up his first win of the season, with a impressive performance against New Haven in the Knights Saturday win over the Chargers. Cheeseman went six full innings, surrendering seven hits, and just three runs, while striking out four batters, logging a quality start for FDU, and the second longest start by any Knight this season.
Cheeseman and the Knights are set to embark on a five game road trip, with the first contest coming against St. John's at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. from Queens.
