BROOKLYN, N.Y.- FDU Men's Volleyball (9-7, 1-2 NEC) picked up their first NEC win of the season over the LIU Sharks (9-10, 1-2 NEC). The Knights won in four sets, taking control of the game after dropping the first set.
Jamal Ellis set a career best with eight service aces during the contest, as the Knights posted their second outing of the season with 10 team aces.
The Sharks launched ahead early, posting a 6-2 lead. Consecutive kills down the middle by
Rayjan Suarez Palacios and two LIU service errors helped the Knights cut the deficit to just one, trailing 7-6.
Jamal Ellis helped the Knights tie the game at 10-10 by driving home a kill.
Suarez Palacios tied the game at 13-13 before the Sharks retook their lead. LIU did not trail the remainder of the set. The Knights made a late run with the help of
Vinil Shah,
Dylan McFadden, and Ellis, which could not close the gap as LIU won the first set 25-23.
FDU found themselves trailing once again in the second set, down 7-4. Ellis landed his first ace of the day, alongside another kill to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Baboloki Silwane helped the Knights level the set at 10-10, shoveling a kill over off an assist from
Randy Delgado. With the help of Shah, the Knights took their first lead of the set, jumping ahead 16-15.
Already ahead 20-18, Ellis put down two kills and landed a service ace to keep the Knights ahead by three. LIU attempted to respond, cutting the score to 23-21. Suarez Palacios and Shah helped to end the set 25-23, as the Knights evened out the contest.
With the teams at a 3-3 stalemate, LIU strung together a run, to separate from FDU early 8-4. FDU was able to respond back in short order, as they muscled their way to tying the game at 10 following a double block from Suarez Palacios and Shah alongside a kill from Silwane.

McFadden and Shah followed up an Ellis ace to pout FDU ahead for good in the third set, 20-18. Ahead late by just one point,
Panagiotis Kourmouzos found a weak spot in the LIU formation to add the set-clinching kill. FDU took the third set 25-23.
The Sharks came out of the break fast, quickly going on a 5-1 opening run. The Knights never panicked, building off three errors to come within one point, 8-7. LIU would continue to hold a slim lead over the Knights, working their way out to a 17-13 lead. McFadden commenced a five point run by FDU, with a kill of his own before Ellis landed a trio of unanswered service aces. An LIU attacking error gave FDU their first lead of the set late, 18-17.
LIU battled back, capitalizing on FDU service errors to retake a 24-23 lead. Ellis contributed a kill and his final ace of the evening to put FDU in position for match point. Suarez Palacios ended the affair for FDU, 26-24, after delivering a game sealing score down the middle.
