PISCATAWAY, N.J. – FDU softball dropped a mid-week doubleheader to Rutgers on Wednesday afternoon.
FDU freshman
Addison Makowski got the start in game one, and was cruising from the jump. The rookie made it through 3.2 IP without allowing a hit. Unfortunately for Makowski, she was unable t find any run support, as their bats could not touch Rutgers' Kelsey Hoekstra.
Madison Rishel hit a single off Hoekstra to lead the game off. The Knights would not record a hit for the remainder of the game. Rutgers began to turn their offense on late, chasing Makowski from the game. Mia Mitchell hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to make it an 8-0 Rutgers lead, and ending the game on the run rule.
FDU was buried by Rutgers from the jump in game two. The Scarlet Knights erupted to start things off, scoring ten runs in the first inning. Rutgers continued to add to their lead across the early innings. FDU's offense started to click in the fifth, as the Knights plated three runs, kick-started by a
Riley Cunningham RBI single. Unfortunately for the Knights, the hot start from Rutgers was too much to overcome. FDU fell in five innings by a score of 17-3.
FDU will head back to Hackensack for their 2026 home opener. The Knights host Monmouth on Tuesday, March 24. First pitch will be at 3 p.m, with coverage on NEC Front Row.
