FDU Sweeps Saint Peter's in Doubleheader

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU softball picked up a doubleheader sweep over Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE

The Knights sent MaryJane Limon out to start game one of the doubleheader. Limon was excellent early, tossing a scoreless first three innings. Limon was backed up by her offense in the bottom of the third, as the Knights plated two runs. Brianna Holguin hit an RBI double, followed by a sacrifice fly by Amanda Jupinka. In the top of the fourth, Saint Peter's punched back, getting to Limon for the first time. The Peacocks scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The lead would not last long, as FDU responded with a five-run bottom of the fourth. The Knights took a 7-3 lead, and would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the game. Limon settled back in and pitched three more scoreless frames to pick up a complete game and the win.

GAME TWO

FDU fell behind early in game two, as the Peacocks scored two runs off Addison Makowski to start things off. FDU quickly responded, as Madison Rishel scored on a wild pitch, and Zoe Milonopoulos hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Sofia Spatocco then stepped to the plate in the first with two runners on. The freshman deposited a ball over the left-center field fence, hitting her first collegiate home run to give FDU a 5-2 lead. FDU remained ahead until the sixth inning, when Saint Peter's rallied back. Trailing 7-5, the Peacocks' Carlee Charles hit a two-run home run to tie things at seven. Heading to the bottom half of the sixth, FDU again punched back. Kailee O'Sullivan hit an RBI single to give FDU an 8-7 lead. Zoe Milonopoulos followed up with an RBI double to give FDU an insurance run and a 9-7 lead. Sierra Albright would send the Peacocks down in order in the seventh to give FDU a 9-7 win and the doubleheader sweep.
