Box Score TEANECK, N.J. - FDU Baseball (10-7, 5-1 NEC) used another double-digit offensive output to run rule the Saint Peter's Peacocks (2-14, 0-3 MAAC) by a final score of 13-3 on a cold Wednesday afternoon at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
The Knights once again started the game from behind as Saint Peter's hit a two run homer off of FDU starter
Neylin Navarro in the top of the first inning, but the Knights would cut the Peacock lead in half in the bottom of the first, as
Hunter Ray launched his team best sixth home run of the season to make the score 2-1.
Jeremy Cheeseman would get in on the home run fun in the second inning, as Cheeseman hit his fifth of the season to tie the game at two in the second inning. FDU put another run on the board in the third by way of a
Johnathan Gomez RBI groundout that scored
Travis Stroh, and the Knights held a slim 3-2 lead after the first three innings of the ballgame.
FDU would create some separation in the fourth inning however, as the inning started with Cheeseman's second homer of the day, and his sixth of the season, also making good for his third multi-homer game this season. The Knights would continue to apply pressure as
Nick Quagliato singled home Jeremy Dealmota to push the FDU lead to 5-2.
Hunter Ray would drive in two more runs to push the FDU run total to seven, and the lead to five making the score 7-2.
Later in the inning,
Jimmy Mantuano, who extended his hitting streak to ten games Wednesday afternoon, singled home
Diego Urreta and
Hunter Ray to add another two runs to the scoreboard, making it a six run bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, the Knights would add another as
Travis Stroh scored his second run of the ballgame, coming home on a wild pitch.
After the Peacocks added a run in the top of the seventh,
Luke Russo drew an RBI walk to get the run right back, and right behind him was
Joey DiMotta, who also drew a walk with the bases loaded, to give FDU a nine run lead at the conclusion of seven innings.
The Knights needed just one more tally to enforce the ten run mercy rule, and it came in the form of
Garryn Plummer's 13th hit by pitch of the season, which came with the bases loaded, scoring
Nick Quagliato, effectively ending the game with a 13-3 final score in favor of the burgundy and blue.
This win marks the fifth in a row for FDU, and their sixth of the homestand that started last Tuesday with a win over Manhattan. The Knights are now 10-7 on the season, with a 7-1 record at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex this season.
FDU will continue the homestand on Friday as a newcomer to the NEC, the New Haven Chargers are heading to town for a three game series. First pitch of the series is set for Friday at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row, with Charlie Carbonetto calling the action.
