FAIRFAX, Va.- The FDU Knights (6-8, 0-2 NEC) fell in three sets to Barton (8-9, 3-3 CC) in a non conference men's volleyball match. The contest was held at George Mason, whom FDU plays tomorrow afternoon.
The Knights jumped ahead first, taking a 5-2 lead with two kills from
Jamal Ellis. The Bulldogs attempted to close the gap, but two costly errors and a
Vinil Shah kill kept FDU ahead three, 8-5.
Barton logged five points, broken up by a lone kill from
Andrew Michael, to tie the affair at 15-15. Barton remained hot, taking a 17-16 lead just a few points later. Two blocks from
Michael Ogorzalek punctuated a go-ahead effort from the Knights, who retook a 21-17 lead.
Kills from Michael and
Laydon Biro ended the set in the Knights favor, with FDU winning 26-24.
With Barton ahead 3-1, FDU mounted an early run, consisting of two aces from Shah and a kill from Ellis. Two more errors and an FDU block helped move the Knights ahead 8-4. Barton continued to make small runs, before tying the set at 17-17.
The Bulldogs followed up the effort with two more kills, taking a 19-17 lead. The Knights could not find any more momentum as they fell in the second set 25-20.
Ellis out the Knights on an opening 3-0 burst, before Barton fought back to tie the contest at 4-4. The Bulldogs continued positive play, capturing an 8-5 lead. The Knights fought back, evening the game at 8-8.
Barton found two big runs in the middle of the set, putting themselves ahead 17-11. The teams exchanged points before FDU mounted a late rally, consisting of two Bro service aces. The Knights gave up the final two points to end the set in the Bulldogs' favor, 25-23.
Barton came out of the set break swinging, establishing a 6-3 lead. The teams played back-and-forth, with the Bulldogs holding onto a slim lead over FDU.
Troy Markle brought the set within one point, before Barton re-extended their lead 19-14.
Barton held on, taking the final set 25-18.
