Box Score TYSONS, V.a. - FDU Baseball dropped the series finale, despite a multi-run comeback at the hands of the Georgetown Hoyas. Two way specialist
Jeremy Cheeseman drove in two big runs for the Knights late in the contest, but the comeback effort came up short in a 6-5 effort.
The Knights started the game by scoring two unearned runs in the first inning, as
Hunter Ray and
Johnathan Gomez scored on an error to give the Knights a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Georgetown would punch back in the third inning, which was a frame where the Hoyas plated six runs, tagging starter
Drew Cisney, as well as Knights reliever
Derek Bartek, both of which making their first appearances as Knights in the loss.
FDU would chip away at the Hoya lead, as
Travis Stroh doubled home
Brady Fandl, to snip the Georgetown lead to three. In the following inning, the Knights would scratch another run across, as Cheeseman tallied his first of two RBI's, hitting a sacrifice fly to score
Garryn Plummer.
Cheeseman would add another RBI in the eighth, as FDU drew closer, as the Knights cut the deficit to just a run heading into the ninth inning.
The comeback would fall short, as with two runners in scoring position, Hoya left fielder Jackson Thomas made an incredible snag to rob
Diego Urreta of what would have been the game tieing and go ahead runs.
FDU will head for the friendly confines of Naimoli Family Baseball Complex as the Knights will take on the Iona Gaels in a midweek home opener. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
