Box Score TYSONS, V.a. - FDU Baseball dropped the series opener on the road at the hands of the Georgetown Hoyas by a final score of 12-1. Johnthan Gomez had a standout game for the burgundy and blue, going 3-for-3 inlcuding a home run, a double and a single, along with a walk, refusing to be retired by the Hoya pitching staff.
FDU started the game on the right foot, as Gomez opened the scoring in the series with the Hoyas as he blasted his first home run of the season to put the Knights up 1-0. FDU then used a good first frame from starter
Cooper Montelbano to get back into the dugout leading Georgetown 1-0.
Georgetown grabbed the lead in the second inning by way of an inside the park home run, and would never look back, as the Hoyas knocked Montelbano out of the game after 3.1 innings, as the Knights ace gave up five earned runs.
The Hoyas would continue to apply runs, as they tagged Knights reliever
Chris Messina for four earned runs, with two more coming unearned. Georgetown would end the game with 12 runs on 11 hits, proving to be a problem for the Knights defense.
FDU will meet Georgetown for game two of the three game set tomorrow, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. Veteran two way player
Jeremy Cheeseman will be the starter for the Knights for the Saturday contest at Capital One Park.
