Niesman Records Season-High in Shootout Loss to New Haven

HACKENSACK, N.J. – A sharp-shooting New Haven (13-15, 8-7) squad took down FDU (11-18, 8-8) by a score of 84-77 in Hackensack on Saturday night.

GAME STORY

New Haven came out exceptionally sharp, knocking down shots at a scorching pace and opening the game on a 15–0 run that put FDU on its heels early. Even so, the Knights stayed composed in the face of that surge, gradually settling into the game and beginning to find rhythm offensively as the half progressed. While UNH's shooting efficiency—over 70% from both the field and three in the first half—created a significant early gap, FDU continued to generate quality looks, attack the paint, and avoid letting the game slip beyond reach, setting the stage for a more competitive second half.

Despite the early hole, FDU showed resilience, particularly after halftime. Joey Niesman sparked several second‑half pushes with his scoring and activity, and the Knights doubled their paint production after the break, outscoring UNH 22–8 inside. FDU twice trimmed the deficit to single digits, including getting within six in the final minute following a pair of clutch threes from Eric Parnell. But UNH's balance and timely answers—especially from Fitzpatrick, who finished with 32 points—kept the Knights at arm's length, preserving an 84–77 New Haven win.
