WEST HAVEN, CONN. – FDU women's basketball (24-4, 15-0) picked up a road conference victory over New Haven (7-19, 5-10) on Saturday afternoon.
FDU turned on the burners to start regulation, going on a quick 8-0 run out of the gate to force an early New Haven timeout. Madlena Gerke, who came into the game averaging 16.8 PPG in the month of February, stayed hot and hit two quick threes to open the scoring.
Out of the early timeout, the Chargers re-calibrated, and tied things back up with an 8-0 run of their own. Kailee McDonald would eventually put the Knights ahead at the end of the quarter, hitting her first three-pointer of the afternoon at the buzzer.
The three-point shooting continued for the Knights in the second quarter. Gerke and McDonald combined for five made triples in the second quarter, helping the Knights pad their lead and head into halftime with a 30-22 lead.
The Knights pulled away in the third quarter behind more blistering offense. FDU shot 53.3% from the field in the quarter, including an absurd 62.5% from three. FDU carried a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter.
