Ellis Tallies Three Aces in Knights' Loss to Patriots

HACKENSACK, N.J.- The FDU Knights (5-5) fell to George Mason (7-6) in a non-confernce men's volleyball matchup. The visiting Patriots won in three sets, as they extend to 8-0 in the all time series versus the Knights. 
 
Set 1:

The Patriots leaped out toa 6-1 lead early in the first set. Rayjan Suarez Palacios put down three of the next four kills to bring FDU within one point, 6-5. George Mason hung onto the lead, before a Jamal Ellis kill and a Patriot error brought the contest even at 9-9.  

As the teams exchanged points, Dylan McFadden put down a kill and a service ace to give the Knights a 14-13 advantage. The Knights held onto their lead until the visitors put down a pair of kills to go ahead 19-18. The Knights never regained their lead in the first set, falling 25-23. 
 
Set 2:

The Patriots kept their momentum into the second set, stampeding out to an 8-2 lead. The Knights responded with an Andrew Michael block and Suarez Palacios ace to cut their deficit to 8-6. 

Following a McFadden kill, Ellis landed back-to-back aces to put the Knights ahead 13-12. The set would be decided late by a four point run from the Patriots, as they pulled ahead 17-14.

Two Ellis kills brought FDU within one score, 21-20, before George Mason landed four of the final five points to end the set 25-21. 
 
Set 3:

McFadden and Laydon Biro helped get the Knights out in front early 3-2. George Mason answered by putting together quick three-point spurts to take an 8-5 lead. 

The Patriots held the Knights in check, until Ellis and McFadden put the game tying points on the board, as the teams were even 14-14. The Patriots pulled back ahead with a three point run to take a 20-16 lead. George Mason carried their lead to the finish line, winning the third set 25-19.

The Knights are back in action at SHU on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
