BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - FDU Baseball dropped two contests on Saturday afternoon at John Henry Moss Stadium, the first one a back and forth battle with the Dartmouth Big Green, and the second a loss at the hands of Gardner Webb.
The Knights opened the first contest of the twin billing by getting in front of Dartmouth, by way of a
Diego Urreta RBI single in the third inning. The Knights used a big fourth inning to pull in front of the Big Green, and then added to the lead in fifth with a
Travis Stroh double, to make the score 5-2 after the end of the fifth inning.
Dartmouth then plated four in the eighth inning to take a lead over FDU, and then added another run in the ninth to take a 7-5 lead into the final frame. FDU applied pressure to the Big Green, as
Luke Russo singled home a run to cut the lead to one. The Knights had bases loaded and were on the wrong side of an incredible play by Dartmouth, and ended the contest with the bases left loaded.
The Knights were led on the mound by
Jeremy Cheeseman, who threw six innings of two run baseball, logging his first quality start of the season in his first appearance.
In the second of two contests, FDU jumped in front of Gardner Webb as
Diego Urreta singled through the left side to score
Hunter Ray. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored nine runs in the fourth inning of the contest to jump out to a big lead over the Knights. FDU could not mount a comeback and fell in the second matchup with the host school, 10-1.
Evan Doyle did a spectacular job for FDU keeping the Bulldogs at bay following their big inning, Doyle threw four innings and only surrendered one Gardner Webb run.
FDU will conclude their North Carolina trip with one final game against the Dartmouth Big Green. First pitch against the Ivy League foe is set for 11 a.m.
