OXFORD, P.A. – FDU secured yet another resounding victory this week at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate, played at Wyncote Golf Course. The team finished 15 under par, winning by a staggering 26 shots. Sophomore
Pietro Maria Piccoli picked up the individual championship at 11 under, ending with a six-shot lead over FDU teammate William McKernan, who finished in second place. This result moved the Knights to 38 under par across their last two tournaments.
Piccoli led FDU to their back-to-back victories with a remarkable performance. Three under-par rounds of 68, 67, and 70 saw him finish in first place. The Italian led the field in bogey avoidance, carding just four across the three rounds and completely avoiding any double bogeys or worse. This was Piccoli's second top-10 finish in a row, and the second individual title of his FDU career.
Senior William McKernan secured the one-two finish for the Knights this week. Rounds of 69, 70, 72 earned him second place on 5 under par. The Englishman showed supreme composure during his final round. A slow start saw him at +3 for his first six holes but battled hard to close with three birdies in his last five holes. This was McKernan's highest-ever finish in a collegiate tournament, a fitting end to his fall season where he has been a leader for the Knights.
The previous week's individual champion
Angad Singh continued to show great form, finishing on 1 over par in a tie for 8th. An extremely consistent performance, featuring 41 pars in 54 holes, helped him earn his second consecutive top-10 finish.
Fellow sophomore
Shreyas Sanmathy also had an impressive week, finishing T11. He would be the only player to outdo Singh in the pars category this week, ending the three rounds with a tally of 43. Sanmathy saved his best for last, carding a 1-under-par 71 in the final round.
Jake Portugal closed out the lineup for the Knights this week. His best showing came in the second round with a 1-under-par 71.
This performance closed out the Knights' incredible fall season: Two team victories as well as two more top-five finishes, two individual championships, six team rounds of par or better and the highest national ranking of any NEC member. This sets FDU up for their all-important spring season, in which they'll look to continue this impeccable form.
