HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (16-4, 7-0) picked up a convincing 76-45 win over Central Connecticut State (0-18, 0-7) on Thursday night.
The Knights took control of things early thanks to some excellent shooting from deep. FDU knocked down five threes as a team in the first quarter, helping them take a 20-13 advantage after the first ten minutes of play. FDU kept their foot on the gas pedal, going on a 12-0 run across the end of the first quarter into the second, giving them a solid double-digit cushion.
When the second half came around, the Knights led by nine. They quickly added to that lead as the half began. FDU started the third quarter on an 11-2 run, thanks to some expert shooting out of sophomore
Kailee McDonald. The Lowell, Mass. native would knock down four three-pointers in the third quarter, helping the Knights outscore the Blue Devils 20-9 in the frame. FDU went into the final quarter with a rock-solid 20-point lead, and cruised to victory from there on out.
- Kailee McDonald led the way for FDU, scoring 18 points on six threes.
- All of McDonald's points came via the three-ball.
- Four of McDonald's six threes came in the third quarter.
- The sophomore shot an efficient 6-of-12 from deep, and grabbed six boards as well.
- Three other Knights (Madlena Gerke, Leah Crosby, Rebecca Osei-Owusu) scored ten points apiece, joining McDonald in double figures.
- The Knights knocked down 12 threes in the win, with five different players converting from deep.
- FDU won the rebounding battle 43 to 29.
FDU heads up to face Le Moyne on Saturday, January 24. Tip-off in Syracuse, N.Y. will come at 1 p.m, with coverage available on NEC Front Row.
