WEST POINT, N.Y. - FDU Track and Field competed at the West Point Inviational inside of Gillis Field House Sautrday afternoon. The Knights were once again led by
Ethan Ruffin who set a new personal record in the Men's High Jump event, breaking the facility record with a height of 2.15 meters.
Ruffin, who has led the NEC in the High Jump event all season long, has tightened his grip on the event by jumping a new personal best height Saturday afternoon. Ruffin now sits in a tie for fourth for the highest jump in the country this season. Ruffin cleared the 2.0-2.12 meter bars all on his first attempt, and then needed all three attempts to clear the record setting bar at 2.15 meters.
Ruffin was not the only Knight that set a new personal record at Saturday's meet however. Two FDU throwers set new personal best distances in the Weight Throw event as
Laila Davis threw a personal best distance of 16.52 meters to take second, and
Tata Coulibaly finished right behind Davis in third, with a distance of 16.49 meters. Those marks stand as the best two in the NEC this year, with third place being a distant one meter behind the duo. Later on in the Triple Jump event, junior
Myles Taylor set a new personal record by jumping a distance of 14.67 meters to take second in the meet.
As for running events, three Knights set new personal best times in their respective Hurdles events.
Tele Abe clocked a new personal best time of 8.44 seconds in the qualifying round of the Men's 60 meter hurdles. The time of 8.44 seconds is good for the 6th best in the NEC this season, and a team best on the Knights. Both
Nya Blades (8.85 seconds) and
Saniyah Miles (9.18 seconds) clocked new PR's in the Women's 60 meter hurdles as FDU finished the event taking the top three spots in the leader board.
FDU will take to the track next at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex as the Knights will take on the Wagner College Invitational on January 17th.
