ERIE, Pa. — The Knights encountered rough waters in Saturday's matchup with Mercyhurst. After being swept Friday evening, the Lakers anchored down on their home court, defeating the Knights 3-1, 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22.
Set 1:
The opening set saw the Lakers charting big plays against the Knights, steering ahead for the majority of the set. FDU weathered the storm, fending off five set points, but Mercyhurst anchored down their block to secure set one, 25-23.
Set 2:
Riding the momentum, the Lakers continued to put pressure on the Knights. Though FDU rallied late, a few errors left them drifting off course. Mercyhurst battened down the hatches once again with a big block, 25-23.
Set 3:
Staying afloat, the Knights settled into their offensive rhythm, hitting .480 as a team. Though the Lakers attempted to capsize the Knights momentum, Sirma Bayrakci steadied the ship with back-to-back aces. A huge block by FDU sealed the set, 25-19.
Set 4:
The Lakers tried to cut and run early, racing to a 5-0 lead. FDU made several strides, but Mercyhurst held firm at the helm and closed out the match, 25-22.
