NEWARK, N.J. — The streak continues for FDU women's volleyball, as they closed out their non-conference season with a 3-1 victory over NJIT on Wednesday night, taking the match 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16. The Knights ride a four-match win streak heading into NEC play.
The setter duo of Isabella Scarfone and Samantha Wittholz ran a dynamic offense, combining for 54 assists and distributing the ball effectively with four attackers in double-digit kills. This week's NEC/Molten Player of the Week Kylie Nott continued to dominate at the net, tallying 4 blocks and 16 kills, hitting .500.
Set 1:
FDU struggled to find their rhythm, allowing the Highlanders to take an early lead. Off the bench, Ava Deguzman sparked momentum that helped the Knights chip away at NJIT's lead. A kill by Avery Bain marked her 500th career kill and gave the Knights their first lead at 21-20. Nott closed out the set with three consecutive kills, ending the set 25-23.
Set 2:
The Knights offense was clicking all over, never trailing. MacKenzy Ruggiero took over late in the set, delivering three kills to close out set two, 25-21.
Set 3:
FDU controlled much of the set, but several errors would allow NJIT to rally late, taking the set 25-23.
Set 4:
A 5-0 service run by Vittoria Bertoli gave FDU a 10-6 lead, and from there, the Knights never looked back. With Scarfone and Wittholz firing on all cylinders, the Knights offense dominated, closing out the match 25-16.
