Early Scoring Spree Springs Boston College Past FDU

NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College (2-0, 0-0) handed FDU a 4-0 loss in the Knights' 2025 season opener on Sunday afternoon. The match marked the first of four straight contests on the road for the Knights.

Katia Cardaba owned the game's first shot on target but was denied by the Boston College goalkeeper just 20 seconds after kickoff. It was one three shots FDU mustered in the first half.

The match was ultimately decided when the Eagles struck for three goals within five minutes of each other. Their scoring spree began off a corner kick that was headed into the back of the net by Amalia Dray in the 9'. Less than two minutes later Sophia Lowenberg made it 2-0. Sophie Reale capped off this stretch by going bar-down for Boston College's third goal in the 14'.

"I felt that we had self-inflicted wounds on each goal we allowed," stated head coach Eric Teepe. "We talked this week about mistakes you cannot make against an opponent like this [Boston College] and we made them."

Despite FDU settling in late in the first half, Boston College added one more insurance goal in the 39'.

The second half certainly saw a more level field, but the Knights were unable to muster anything to answer Boston College's first half output. In the end, the Eagles put ten shots on target compared to FDU's six. Four of those attempts came in the second half for FDU.

"We certainly had good stretches in this match and did some good things", continued Teepe. "However, we were just looking for the perfect goal instead of trying to manufacture some grittier opportunities."

Eric Teepe went deep into his bench on an afternoon that reached over 90 degrees. A total of 25 Knights saw the field in Newton. Notably, freshman goalkeeper Laia Oller Ramos relieved FDU's starter Rosemarie LeBlanc after an injury in the first half. Oller Ramos ended her first career match with five saves.
