HANOVER, Md. – The FDU Knights (14-37, 14-14 NEC) took down the Coppin State Eagles (15-32, 13-15 NEC) in the final conference series opener by a score of 13-3 in eight innings.
Left-hander,
Jordan Savinon started the day on the mound for the Knights and tossed a dominant five innings. The junior recorded a career-high of nine strikeouts in the outing while just allowing two runs. Out of the bullpen we saw
Ethan Rembish for an inning along with hometown kid,
Ben Pika who closed the final two innings for FDU. Pika logged two strikeouts and only allowed one run.
The Knights offense dominated the game with 13 total runs scattered from the second to eighth inning.
Hunter Ray roped a double into right center field to set up
Franklin Gomez Jr. who drove him in with a double of his own to left center field.
Tyler Worth followed up with an RBI single through the right side to score Gomez Jr. to close the second inning scoring and give the Knights a 2-0 lead quick.
Johnathan Gomez singled through the left side in the third inning to score
Travis Stroh. The two freshmen followed up in the fourth inning with an RBI each to extend FDU's lead over Coppin State 5-0.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to three. However, the Knights added four more runs in the seventh inning to add to their advantage, bringing the score to 9-2.
Coppin added a run in the bottom half of the seventh which was their last run of the game.
FDU continued to tack on with three more runs in the top of the eighth inning off two singles and a sacrifice fly to give them a ten-run lead over the Eagles. The Knights defense held off the Coppin State bats in the bottom of the eighth to sew up a 13-3 victory.

The FDU Knights will continue their three-game series at Coppin State on Friday, May 16. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
