EASTON, Mass. – The FDU Knights (8-24, 8-7 NEC) dropped the final game of their conference series against Stonehill (8-19, 7-5 NEC), falling 7-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Left-hander
Jordan Savinon turned in a strong start for the Knights, tossing 6.1 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just four earned runs on four hits.
Nick Noble and
Jeremy Cheeseman came on in relief, each recording a strikeout. Noble was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs during his outing.
FDU's offense came out hot, plating three runs in the second inning. Cheeseman got things started with an RBI single through the right side, followed by a two-run single from
Travis Stroh to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.
Cheeseman struck again in the fourth, launching a solo homer over the left-center field fence to extend the lead to 4-0.
Stonehill got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single, but FDU quickly responded. In the fifth,
Johnathan Gomez laced an RBI double to make it 5-1 in favor of the Knights.
The momentum shifted in the seventh as the Skyhawks rallied for three runs to cut the deficit to one. In the eighth, Stonehill tied the game with a single to center, then took the lead on a heads-up baserunning play following another single, making it 7-5.
The Knights were unable to mount a comeback in the ninth, sealing the loss and giving Stonehill the series win.

FDU returns home for a midweek matchup against former NEC rival Sacred Heart on Wednesday, April 9. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
