TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (0-12,0-0) faced the Iona Gaels (2-8,0-0) at home on Wednesday afternoon. The game was cut short due to heavy rain resulting in a 14-7 loss for the Knights in seven innings.
The Gaels jumped on the board first with a solo homerun in the first inning which the Knights were able to cancel out by plating
Joey DiMotta off a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.
Iona tacked on another run in the second that FDU answered back with again to knot the game at 2-2.
The Gaels cracked open the game in the third with a burst of offensive opportunities and plated four runs to take a 6-2 lead over the Knights. Iona extended their lead with another two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-2.
The Knights score four runs in the fourth and fifth frames off two hits from
Franklin Gomez Jr. and a single from
Diego Urreta to close in on the Gaels 8-6.
Iona's offense powered through the rest of the game adding six more runs, but the Knights couldn't combat the run difference before the rain put a stop to the game. FDU fell by a score of 14-7.
