TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (7-21, 7-5 NEC) completed a series sweep of the Delaware State Hornets (3-19, 2-10 NEC) with a dominant 5-0 shutout victory in game three.
Head coach
Manny Roman turned to his reliable left-hander,
Jordan Savinon, to close out the conference series, and the junior delivered a gem. Savinon was nearly untouchable, striking out eight over seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits.
FDU's offense wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning,
Diego Urreta roped a double to bring home
Jimmy Mantuano, giving the Knights an early 1-0 lead.
The scoring continued in the second, as
Travis Stroh ripped an RBI double to right-center, plating
Felix Gonzalez and extending the advantage to 2-0.
Freshman
Hunter Ray stayed red-hot at the plate, smacking three doubles on the day. His first came in the third inning, driving in two runs to push the lead to 4-0. Moments later, Gonzalez kept the momentum rolling with an RBI single to center, bringing Ray home and capping off the scoring for the day.
With Savinon's masterful performance on the mound, the Knights secured the 5-0 win and their first conference series sweep of the season.
