DeWitt, N.Y. – FDU men's tennis opened Northeast Conference play with a convincing 6-1 victory over Le Moyne.
Le Moyne set the tone in doubles, sweeping all three matches. Peter Hatton and Adrian Daniel took the No. 1 doubles match 6-4, while Lorenzo Bortolaso and Luke Hoyland edged out Joshua Oboniye and Andrew Nicolae in No. 2 doubles, 7-6, 7-5. Jacob Maravillas and Bernardo Teixeira secured the No. 3 doubles match with a 6-4 win, giving the Dolphins the crucial doubles point.
However, FDU responded with resilience in singles, winning five of six matches to claim overall victory.
At No. 1 singles, Peter Hatton defeated Joshua Oboniye in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. But FDU took control from there, starting with Gryffin Minor's marathon battle at No. 2 singles, where he overcame Adrian Daniel 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 7-5. Thomas Linley followed with another three-set victory at No. 3, rallying past Bernardo Teixeira 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
FDU's momentum carried into the lower flights, as Tauras Mickus (No. 4) and Asaf Schwartz (No. 5) earned straight-set wins. Mickus topped Maravillas 6-2, 6-3, while Schwartz battled to a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 triumph over Hoyland.
The deciding match came at No. 6 singles, where Jorge Alonso-Cortes outlasted Navya Verma in a third-set super tiebreak, 6-3, 4-6, 14-12, sealing the overall victory for FDU.
