TEANECK, N.J. – Left-hander
Jordan Savinon led the FDU Knights (4-20, 4-5 NEC) to a dominant 6-0 shutout victory over the Norfolk State Spartans (1-18, 1-8 NEC) on Sunday afternoon.
Savinon was electric on the mound, tossing seven stellar innings while allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters.
The Knights struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning when
Tyler Worth laced a two-run single to left field. They added to their advantage in the second as
Johnathan Gomez delivered an RBI single, followed by
Diego Urreta drawing a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 4-0.
Jimmy Mantuano, who has been on a hot streak offensively, continued his tear with a solo home run to right field in the sixth, making it 5-0. He later crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the eighth, capping off the Knights' scoring and securing the shutout victory.
"Jordan [Savinon] set the tone from the first inning and gave us a much needed outing," said head coach
Manny Roman. " The defense made plays behind him and our offense came through in big spots. It was a good team win today."
