NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The FDU Knights (2-16, 2-2 NEC) opened their three-game Northeast Conference series at Central Connecticut (5-3, 3-1 NEC) with an 8-3 loss on Friday.
FDU struck first, plating a run in each of the first two innings.
Johnathan Gomez put the Knights on the board in the opening frame with a solo home run over the right-field wall. In the second,
Nate Dudeck executed a sacrifice bunt to bring home another run, giving FDU an early 2-0 advantage.
The Blue Devils responded with a four-run fourth inning, using a pair of doubles and a single to seize control. They extended their lead with two additional runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by key hits, including a double and a single. Matt Falk led the Central Connecticut offense with three RBIs.
FDU added its final run in the seventh when
Diego Urreta delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring
Nick Quagliato. However, the Knights were unable to generate further offense, falling 8-3 in the series opener.

The Knights look to bounce back on Saturday, March 15 in game two against Central Connecticut. The game will be played at CCSU Baseball Field in New Britain, Conn. with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
