ORLANDO, Fla. – FDU women's tennis kicked off their spring break trip to Florida this evening with a match against Western Carolina. The Catamounts knocked off the Knights by a score of 5-2.
Western Carolina swept the doubles matches and earned the first point of the match.
In the first singles spot,
Namie Isago dropped the first set 3-6. She nearly pushed the second set to a tiebreaker before falling 5-7.
Anastasia Lim fell in straight sets at #2.
The third and fourth singles spots produced two very competitive matches.
Alena Kubanova played #3 today and won the first set 6-4. Her opponent won the next set 6-4 to force a decisive third set, which she captured 6-3. Kim improves to 10-8 on the year and 3-3 in the spring.
At #4
Yelena Kim cruised through the first set with a 6-2 victory. She came close to ending it in the second set but dropped it 7-5. Kim bounced back and won a thrilling super tiebreaker 10-7.
Valentine Silva fell in the #5 spot 4-6, 4-6.
Katsiaryna Kostsina won her first set in a tiebreak at #6 singles. She sealed the straight-set victory with a convincing 6-2 win in the second set. This is her second win of the spring season.
