Men's Basketball Preview: Crucial Week Looms for the Knights

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU (10-15, 6-4) aims to build off their victory last weekend with two games on their slate this week. The Knights host Chicago State (4-21, 4-6) on Thursday, before traveling to LIU (12-15, 8-4) on Saturday.

FDU completed a season sweep of Wagner in Hackensack last Saturday. The Knights erased a 10-point deficit on their way to a 69-58 win. Bismark Nsiah scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds. 16 of Nsiah's points and seven of his rebounds came in the second half. FDU held Wagner to under 33% shooting from the field and forced 15 turnovers. The Knights capitalized on these miscues to the tune of 19 points off turnovers. It was a balanced offensive attack for Jack Castleberry's team. Four of FDU's starters scored in double-figures. Terrence Brown scored 12 and dished out four assists. Jameel Morris connected on two of FDU's six triples en route to nine points off the bench.

The Knights currently sit third in the NEC and face a huge week with just eight games remaining. FDU trails LIU for the second spot by one game ahead of their crucial Saturday matchup. They are in control of their own destiny in terms of hosting an NEC quarterfinal as they are 1.5 games clear of the fifth spot.

Chicago State is coming off an 81-69 home loss to Saint Francis U last Saturday. Before that, they had won two-straight contests. The Cougars score 62.2 points per game and surrender 78.6 on the defensive end. Their leading scorer Jalen Forrest (12.2 ppg), the reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week.

FDU defeated Chicago State 58-48 on January 20.

LIU has won two-straight and is 7-4 at home. The Sharks are one of just two NEC teams to topple first-place CCSU and did so on the road. They are averaging 67.7 points per game and surrender 66.9. Malachi Davis (17.5 ppg) is their leading scorer. He is coming off a 24-point performance in a win over Stonehill.

Next up for the Knights is their western Pennsylvania swing. They travel to take on Mercyhurst and Saint Francis U next week on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
