HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU (9-14, 5-3) saw their three-game winning streak snapped by Mercyhurst (12-13, 6-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers defeated the Knights in Hackensack, 67-60.
Mercyhurst created all the separation they needed at the end of the first half. They held FDU to just five points in the final nine minutes before the half ended. Heading into the locker room, the Knights trailed 37-26.
FDU surged out of the halftime break and put together a 9-2 run that cut into the Laker lead. At the 12:40 mark a
Brayden Reynolds layup got FDU within three. However, Mercyhurst responded with an 11-2 run and essentially took the wind out of the Knights' sails.
The Knights rallied and scraped back to within four again with 1:11 remaining but could not complete the comeback.
Shots from beyond the arc did not fall for
Jack Castleberry's team on Saturday. They were just 5-20 from deep.
Bismark Nsiah pulled in 13 boards, which marks his highest total against a Division I opponent this season. Nsiah also contributed six points. The forward's strong effort on the glass was the leading factor in the Knights winning the rebounding battle 33-27. A total of just six of these came on the offensive end allowing FDU to convert six second-chance points.
Terrence Brown led the team with 19 points. Reynolds poured in 11 off the bench.
