PROVIDENCE, R.I. – FDU (1-7) fell at the hands of Providence (5-4) on Tuesday night in Rhode Island. The Friars defeated the Knights by a score of 94-64
- Joey Niesman delivered 14 points in the loss.
- It's Niesman's second game in double figures this year.
- The veteran guard was 4-6 from beyond the arc, matching a season-high in made threes.
- Niesman also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists
The Friars came out firing on their home floor. They shot 57.1% from the field and made ten triples in the first half alone. Providence opened the game on an 8-0 run and continued to build their lead from there.
The Knights committed ten turnovers in a half where they made just 7-30 field goal attempts. This put them in a 52-31 hole at the break.
FDU's best minutes of the night came in the opening stages of the second half. They scored 13 points in the first four minutes and cut the lead to 24, which prompted Providence to call timeout.
The Friars' timeout seemingly halted FDU's momentum as they immediately answered with a 14-5 run that gave them their largest lead of the night at 33 points (72-49).
Late in the second half, FDU began to knock down shots from the perimeter. They converted three triples, which ignited a 15-2 run. This cut the Providence lead to 80-57.
Despite outscoring Providence 43-42 in the second half, FDU was not able to mount a comeback.
