Knights' Defense Shuts Down Saint Peter's in 57-34 Win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (7-3, 0-0) picked up a road win over Saint Peter's (1-8, 0-0)by a score of 57-34 on Wednesday night.

THE STORY

Things got off to a slow start in Jersey City. The Knights went the first four and a half minutes of regulation without getting a point on the board, while Saint Peter's scored just six points across that same timeframe. 

However, across the end of the first quarter, the Knights' offense came alive. FDU closed the quarter on a 13-2 run, taking control of the game. The three-point shooting opened up for the Knights, as Ava Renninger, Madlena Gerke, and Kailee McDonald knocked down threes. McDonald continued her hot shooting from her last outing, knocking down two triples in the first quarter. 

McDonald knocked down another triple in the second quarter, making it ten made three-pointers across her previous three halves of basketball. 

The second half saw the Knights take full control of the game. FDU out-scored the Peacocks 29 to 15 across the final twenty minutes. The Knights' defense completely shut down the Saint Peter's offense in the second half. The Peacocks had only four made buckets across the the final 20 minutes.

THE STATS
  • Ava Renninger led the way in the victory with 15 points.
    • Renninger turned in seven rebounds and five assists as well.
    • The sophomore knocked down three triples in the victory.
  • Rebecca Osei-Owusu had a career-high ten points in the victory.
    • Osei-Owusu also flirted with a double-double, grabbing eight rebounds.
    • The junior played 27 minutes in her ninth consecutive start of the season.
  • Kailee McDonald continued her red-hot shooting, knocking down four threes.
    • The sophomore contributed 12 points in the victory. 
    • McDonald has knocked down 11 threes in her past two games combined.
  • The ball movement was incredible for FDU in the victory.
    • The Knights assisted on 17 of their 21 made field goals.
  • The Knights kept control of the ball, winning the turnover battle eight to 13.
WHAT'S NEXT
FDU will be on a ten-day break, before returning to face Ursinus at home on December 20. Tip-off in Hackensack will be at 1 p.m, with coverage available on NEC Front Row.
