Knights Split Six Matchups at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- FDU Fencing took to the Vassar Invitational inside Walker Fieldhouse on Sunday. The Knights split their six matchups throughout the day, leaving Poughkeepsie with a 3-3 record. 

FDU opened the day by taking on the host school Vassar, where the Knights battled the Brewers, losing the Foil and Epee by a 5-4 count, but ultimately fell by a final score of 17-10. Sàra Szeverènyi led the way for FDU in the opening matchup, going 2-0 against Vassar.

Wellesley College was the next opponent for the Knights, and FDU continued to compete, but fell in their second matchup as well, 18-9. Jade Burnett and Isabel You were among the list of Knights that got their first wins of the day in the second match of the day, helping FDU claim two of the first points in the Epee round. 

The Knights found their first win of the season in the third match of the day against the Sacred Heart Pioneers by a final score of 20-5. FDU dominated the Foil and Epee rounds against SHU, winning both rounds 8-1. Gabriela Como and Genesis Pena both came away with two wins for the Knights in the Foil round as FDU cruised to their first win of the 2025-26 season. 

The Knights were able to keep the momentum going in match number four of the event, as the Knights topped Hunter College 17-10. FDU grabbed eight of the nine available points in the Epee round, as Isabel You went 3-0 to help push the Knights past the Hawks to even their record on the day at 2-2. 

FDU grabbed their third win of the day in dominant fashion over Lafayette, topping the Leopards 22-3. The Knights swept the Epee round, winning 9-0, and then grabbed seven of the nine available points in the foil round. FDU then closed out the victory by nearly sweeping the Leopards again, winning the Saber round 6-1.

In the final match of the day for the Knights, Tufts University upended FDU, winning the last match of the day 19-8. 

FDU will take to the strip next at home, hosting the FDU Fencing Invitational inside the Bogota Savings Bank Center. Action from Hackensack will start at 9 a.m.
