HACKENSACK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (1-6) fell by a score of 81-73 against Army (2-6) at home on Wednesday afternoon. The game marked the conclusion of the FDU Basketball Classic in partnership with The Salvation Army of N.J.
- Raysean Johnson recorded a career-high 16 points in the loss
- The sophomore guard went 4-8 from the field and made 6-8 free throws
- Johnson also drilled two triples
The teams traded buckets to open the game as Army held a 20-19 lead with 9:16 remaining. The Black Knights then produced an 11-3 spurt that put them ahead 31-22, which marked their largest lead of the afternoon. They led 33-27 at halftime.
FDU struggled to shoot it from beyond the arc in the opening stanza, converting just two of 13 from beyond the arc. Conversely, Army made seven triples in the period.
FDU opened the second half on a 13-7 run and knotted the game at 40-40 with a
Noah Melson triple. Army scored 11 of the next 16 to take a 51-45 lead. The Knights answered with a 9-0 lead that gave them a three-point lead. What followed was six unanswered from Army that gave them the lead for good.
The Burgundy and Blue cut the lead to one with just under four minutes remaining but could not draw even. Army hit nine of their last ten free throws to seal the game.
- Taeshaud Jackson pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds
- He is averaging 9.1 rebounds on the season
- FDU pulled in 14 offensive rebounds to the tune of 21 second chance points
- The Knights converted six triples in the second half
