BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The FDU Knights (8-5-5, 8-0-2) and LIU Sharks (7-4-5, 5-2-3) played to a 0-0 draw in Brookville on Thursday afternoon.
With the result, the Knights clinched at least a share of the NEC Regular Season Championship. It marks their fifth regular season title in program history and their fourth under head coach
Eric Teepe.
"It was a tough match to play in the weather," commented Teepe. "But I felt while we controlled the match, we were just not able to finish chances. I think our decision making was a little off once we went into the attack."
The Knights produced ten shots while LIU recorded just two. However, four LIU saves kept FDU off the board.
It is the first time the Knights have been shutout in the last 14 matches.
FDU now enters the last day of the regular season with a chance to win the league outright and earn hosting privileges throughout the NEC tournament. If FDU defeats or draws Howard on Sunday, they will earn the #1 seed in the NEC tournament.
With a loss, FDU will fall to the #2 seed. Regardless of the result, the Knights will host an NEC semifinal match next Thursday, November 6.
FDU and Howard will meet this Sunday, November 2, at 12 p.m. in Teaneck. The Knights will celebrate Senior Day with a ceremony prior to kickoff. The match will be aired on NEC Front Row.
