HACKENSACK, N.J. — Friday night's match-up between FDU women's volleyball (14-8, 7-2) and Saint Francis (13-6, 8-0) was a five-set thriller with the Red Flash coming out on top over the Knights (25-27, 25-21, 25-20, 15-25, 16-14).
It was an all out battle between the top teams in the conference. While SFU would take the match, the Knights were dynamic with Kylie Nott and Alessia Zampieri leading the charge.
Set 1:
The Knights came out firing against the Red Flash. The duo of Nott and Zampieri were electric, totaling 10 kills. SFU would find their footing and push FDU to extra points, but a huge block by Giorgia Vaschetti gave the Knights set one 26-24.
Set 2:
The Red Flash carried their momentum from the previous set, holding the lead for a majority of the set. While FDU rallied and tied late in the set, SFU closed out the set with a service ace 25-21.
Set 3:
FDU bounced back, showing their resilience. Becoming a wall at the net and putting the pressure behind the service line, they held the lead and did not look back, taking the set 25-20.
Set 4:
SFU responded, holding the Knights to only 9 kills behind 2 blocks and 4 service aces. FDU was unable to gain momentum and dropped the set 25-15.
Set 5:
The Red Flash jumped out to an early lead, but the Knights did not let up. Crawling their way back in, FDU took the lead and set point. However, SFU battled back, taking the match 16-14
