CHICAGO, Ill. – The FDU Knights (14-8, 8-1) completed a weekend sweep over Chicago State (0-18, 0-8) with a three-set victory (25-20, 25-17, on Saturday afternoon. It marks their eighth sweep of the season.
The Knights have now won seven straight matches, with four of those victories coming on the road. Their success in Chicago sets up a pivotal weekend in Hackensack against unbeaten Saint Francis U.
Set 1
Chicago State jumped out to an early lead in a first set that saw both teams hit over .300. However, in crunch time it was FDU's attackers that met the moment. The Knights won 10 of the last 13 points to erase the early deficit and grab the match's first set.
Set 2
The Knights dominated the start of set two, winning the first five points and never looking back. With four blocks, they forced Chicago State's hitting percentage into the negatives and cruised to a decisive second set victory.
Set 3
FDU replicated their start to set two with a 5-0 run to kick things off in the third. While Chicago State answered with a 5-1 run of their own, the Knights never did relinquish their initial lead. A 7-2 spurt in the middle of the set seemingly gave them the space they needed to complete the sweep. However, Chicago State fought off five set points and made things interesting before the Knights finished the job.
